As a lover of all things paranormal, I was excited I won this novel in a giveaway and enjoyed stepping into the world of Fated Capture. The novel follows Arsema, a feisty teen whose life is shaken when she discovers she’s not just some ordinary girl, but half Craecian, an immortal race that was created to protect humanity—but more than that, she discovers her destiny will either save or destroy them. That’s a lot for a teen to take in, but Arsema never misses a beat no matter the obstacle she faces.
While the novel has a romantic, instant-love element, there is so much more woven into it. I found the love Arsema shares for her family and best friend was what really drew me into the story. Her friendship with Tris was well done, and I loved their interactions the most. The ups and downs they shared were relatable, and I could imagine being their best friend, too.
Arsema’s voice was a fun read—a mix of humor and spunk—and I found myself laughing out loud on several occasions. Even when times seemed hopeless, she always found the best of a bad situation, and her determination and willingness to admit when she needed help, made for a great heroine.
The one thing I disliked about the novel was how one of the major conflicts was solved. It was predictable and slightly unbelievable to me, but it wasn’t a deal breaker and didn’t affect my enjoyment of the ending.
If you like young adult paranormal romance, stories of friendship, instant-love or soul mate stories, good versus evil, or dual points of view, Fated Capture is a must read. I’m interested to discover how the rest of the series plays out.
