Character Interview with Cami Anders

Cami Character Interview

Whenever I need a break from writing or editing one of my novels, I like to write smaller pieces to get my mind back on track. So, I sat down and thought about what it would be like to talk to Cami Anders instead of be in her head for once, and this character is what came out of it. It includes a never-before-read memory of Cami’s from her time on the run with her guardian, Alana, advice on demons, and who smells better: Dylan the nephilim or Evan the demi-demon.*

*There is a small spoiler about Dylan and Evan’s involvement in Cami’s life. Read at your own risk.

And now without further ado, and interview with Cami Anders.

Me: Thank you so much for stopping by, Cami. I’m surprised to see you alone.

Cami: *Smiles* I’m not alone. Alana’s outside. She didn’t like that you chose somewhere that isn’t safe so she’s keeping guard.

Me: Malicevile and I have a deal. Plus, the sun’s still out.

Cami: *Pales* You made a deal with a demon?

Me: *Shrugs* More of an agreement. *Shifts uncomfortably under Cami’s scrutiny* Anyway, while we’re talking about demons, can you give me a few words of advice?

Cami: *Raises her eyebrows* First, never make a deal with a demon. Demons don’t make deals unless they get the better end of the bargain—which is most likely your soul. Also, don’t let them fool you. Upper-level demons are extremely charming.

Me: Oh, I know.

Cami: I was afraid of that.

Me: *Laughs nervously* Let’s stay on track. I know you need to get back to safety before the sun sets. You’ve had quite a few run-ins with demons over the years. Any one particularly memorable?

Cami: About two years ago, when things were still pretty peaceful in my life, Alana and I lived in a beach town just north of San Diego. We’d been living there for probably four months, one of our longer stays, and I attended a public high school. Well, Alana was forced into one of those mandatory parent/teacher conferences that left us out after sunset. It wasn’t really a big deal, most of our apartments weren’t exactly demon safe, but it’s nice when things fall on a daylight schedule. Anyway, when we get to my school, there was this woman screaming at my English teacher. She was throwing her arms around, just making this huge scene. I immediately knew something was wrong because even the most potent perfume couldn’t mask the demon stink that lingered on the woman.

Me: So a demon was disguised as a parent?

Cami: *Holds hands up* Sort of. As it turned out, a kid had hired this demon to intimidate poor Mr. Longstein into changing his grade before his parents showed up for their conference.

Me: Whoa!

Cami: I know! Anyway, this kid got so freaking lucky that the demon wasn’t interested in anything more than money. She was probably working her way up to his soul.

Me: How does someone even find a demon?

Cami: Why are you asking?

Me: *Shrugs* So I know what not to do.

Cami: Alana says it’s harder than you’d expect. Demons pick their prey. It’s all very calculated. But, I’m sure if you called for one loud enough after dark, you could probably find one. Big cities tend to have an abundance of them.

Me: I bet finding a demon at parent/teacher night was quite the surprise for Alana.

Cami: Alana? No. Me, totally. One second the woman was yelling, and then in the next, her face had morphed from soccer mom to something of nightmares. Mr. Longstein passed out right on the floor the moment before Alana cut the demon’s heart out and sent her back to Hell.

Me: I’d have passed out, too. Demons in their true bodies are a whole lot of nope in my book.

Cami: *Laughs* That stupid demon was the reason I had to leave one of my favorite places. Oh, well.

Me: Hey, if it didn’t, you’d never had met a few certain someones.

Cami: *Blushes* You’re going to go there?

Me: *Grins* How can I not talk about your encounter with a nephilim and a demi-demon? Did you ever imagine you’d get to meet two boys from opposite sides of the spectrum?

Cami: Oh, definitely not. I’m glad I did though. Dylan basically pulled me from the fringes of the Veiled Realm and dropped me in the center of it, and then Evan taught me how to survive in it in a way Alana never could.

Me: *Smirks* I bet Alana just loves Dylan for that.

Cami: *Rolls her eyes* He’s lucky she didn’t try to pluck his wings.

Me: So she’s Team Evan?

Cami: She’s Team Cami.

Me: What about you?

Cami: We’re all on the same side, you know.

*A knock sounds on the door, and Alana peeks her head in.*

Alana: We have an hour to get home.

Cami: *Frowns* One more question?

Alana: *Crosses arms* Fine.

Me: Okay. One more question. You have a keen sense of smell that allows you know when someone isn’t human. And since we’re talking about Evan and Dylan, who are only half human…who smells better?

Cami: Seriously?

Me: Yeah.

Cami: They both smell pretty irresistible—Dylan like apples and rain and Evan like amber and patchouli—but I’m going to go with Evan.

Alana: Good choice.

Me: I’m going to pick Dylan then.

Cami: Cadence is with you on that.

Me: You’ll have to send her my way for an interview.

Cami: *Smiles* She’d like that.

Me: *Turns to Alana* Thanks for bringing Cami by, Alana. You sure you don’t want to hang around and answer some questions?

Cami: Good luck with pulling answers from her.

Alana: *Sighs* Come on, Cami. It’s time to go.

Me: Thanks again for stopping by, Cami. Stay safe tonight.

Cami: You, too. And remember what I said about demons.

Me: *Makes note to call Malicevile to reschedule his interview* Sure thing.

I hope you all enjoyed this interview with Cami Anders! Feel free to leave your own questions in the comments, and she might just come back for another interview some other time.

I turn on my heels, stomping my way back to the arched doorway that leads to the altar. Footsteps echo behind me. I barely have time to turn before Evan collides into me. We fall to the floor in a tangle of arms and legs. I land on my back with Evan pressed on top of me. Heat blossoms in my cheeks. I’m angry and embarrassed I was defeated so easily.

I freeze as he watches me, his nose almost touching mine. I can’t help breathing deeply. He smells like his pillow—hints of golden amber and raw patchouli mixed with his citrus shampoo.

“Never turn your back on a demon.” His deep voice vibrates through me, sending tingles down my spine.

I lie placidly beneath him. “You’re not a de—” I begin to say, and then laugh.

“That’s beside the point.” Evan’s words wipe the smile from my lips. “You can never let your guard down for anyone—not even me.”

He rolls off me, breathing heavily, attempting to regain his composure. I push off the floor, knocking him on his back, determined not to make the same mistake twice. I’m tempted to help him up, but I picture him yanking me back onto the floor and yelling at me again.

I walk backwards, putting distance between us. The corner of his mouth quirks into a half smile. I narrow my eyes, taking longer strides backwards, my right hand behind me, guiding my way so I don’t bump into the wall I know is coming up behind me.

Evan reaches above his head, pressing his palms flat against the floor, and easily handsprings. His body arches in an elegant swooping motion, and he lands smoothly on his feet. He lurches closer, stalking his prey like a hunter. The predator he is dominates his every movement, every gesture, from his graceful strides to the ferocious glint in his eyes reflecting back at me. Crap, he’s going to try and corner me.

I steady my pace, taking each step one at a time, reaching out to the cool emptiness of the room behind me. It’s a relief to my clammy skin and my tightly wound nerves. I’m not trapped…yet.

I straighten my back. Lifting my chin smugly, I curl my lips into my most dazzling smile.

Without saying a word, he charges at me. I side step out of his way seconds before his arms can wrap around me. I run to the opposite side of the room. Alana would be proud of my ability to stay on the edge of danger without jumping into it. I’m a fast opponent when I’m not scared out of my wits. I can defeat the feline in Evan’s game of cat and mouse.

“You can’t run forever. I will catch you.”

“Want to bet on it?”

“Yes.”

Announcing DESTINED FOR LOVE: A DESTINED FOR DREAMS NOVELLA

I discovered that I should never say never when it comes to my writing. I never thought I’d find myself immersed in the heads of Nadia and Hunter in the Destined for Dreams world again after concluding their series, but as it turns out, I had one more story left in me. Destined for Love is a Valentine’s Day special Novella that follows Nadia and Hunter as they celebrate the creature world’s equivalent of the most romantic day of the year, Lovers’ Day.

The novella runs at almost 19k words, which is about 100 printed pages. You’ll be able to purchase Destined for Love at all online retailers after February 10th, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

And now, for the cover and blurb…

small for newsletter

Weeks after leaving the danger and destruction of their past behind, Nadia Petrov and Hunter Sullivan finally have the chance to start their lives over.

When Lovers’ Day, the most romantic day of the year in the creature world, arrives, they finally have the chance to celebrate their everlasting love and new life together. The day spirals downward when new enemies arise from the shadows—enemies more merciless than even the most skilled Human Preservation Agency agent. They threaten to destroy the life Nadia and Hunter fought to create together.

As their special day turns to shambles, and the lines between good and evil blur once again, Nadia and Hunter must fight to save themselves and the world they fought so hard to make safe. In a battle that tests whether or not love can conquer all, they must discover who to trust and who the real enemies are before it’s too late.

Destined for Love takes place after Destined for Death and before the Finding Nate series. You can read it as a standalone, but it’s best to have read the Destined for Dreams series.

I hope you’re looking forward to the release of Destined for Love! Don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter to receive information first about new releases and be able to participate in exclusive giveaways!

XOXO,

End of the Year Recap and Plans for 2016

HAPPY NEW YEAR

As the year comes to a close, I can’t help but think about what a wild, sometimes devastating, ride 2015 has been for me. I didn’t get the chance to accomplish all my goals for the year, but I’m okay with that, because what I did accomplish I never thought I could do in the first place. This year has unfortunately been more terrible than good, but here I am, still standing and ready for what is to come.

With all the struggles I’ve faced this year, a lot of my publishing career has been put on the back burner. As an Indie author, I just couldn’t afford to invest the money it takes to put a good book into your hands, not to mention the hands of new readers. I didn’t have the time or money to invest in marketing, and I couldn’t spread the news about my books by word of mouth all on my own. It has forced me to make some decisions that I didn’t want to, like push back future publications longer than I expected and pursue other options for the new books I’ve written.

So, with saying all that, I wanted to let you in on a few not-so-secret things that could help get my books into your hands sooner:

-First, tell your friends. Spread the word about my books anyway you can. Word of mouth is the best gift you can give an author.

-Second, write a review. Reviews make or break a book and it helps author’s gain notice. It doesn’t have to be a book report. Writing a simple line about how you enjoyed the book makes a world of difference to authors.

-Third, interact with me on social media. It’s easy to scroll past my posts on social media, and the more you scroll, the more I start to disappear. Interacting keeps me around, and it also helps me gain visibility in a time where social media is trying to force me into paying to show you anything. I’m just not going to do it.

-Fourth, sign up for my infrequent newsletter, so you can stay up-to-date on everything to do with my books. This way you’ll never miss any news, sneak peeks, and even giveaways.

Doing even one of these things helps tremendously, and it’d help me release more books for you to enjoy. Also, let me know if you do any of these things. I’d like to thank you personally!

As for my plans for the upcoming year, I will try everything in my power to release the rest of the Finding Nate series. I’ve been working hard on them for months, and I can’t wait to share the rest of Mira and Nate’s story. I’ll also try to publish one more companion series, which I think is my favorite yet, but only time will tell. My other goals for 2016 are to blog more consistently, send out more newsletters, feature twice as many books from authors I love, hold more giveaways, and to reach fifty reviews for Destined for Dreams. I’d also like to write a completely new series and a standalone novel, which I’m most excited about. While I love the Creature Council and the HPA world, I’m ready to explore new places and people in my writing.

On a final note, I’d like to thank every single one of you for following me and reading my books. Thanks for the kind comments and for loving my stories. You’ve been my shining light through my dismal year, and I appreciate you with my entire heart.

Happy New Year!

Best,

Ginna Moran

Destined for Dreams Character Interview

Character Interview Destined for Dreams by Ginna Moran Image

*I wrote a character interview with Nadia and Hunter almost a year ago for a blog but never posted it myself. This interview takes place after Destined for Dreams and before Destined for Despair. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! If you haven’t read Destined for Dreams yet, pick up your FREE digital copy from all online book retailers.*

Today, as a treat, I’d like to introduce you to two special guests for an interview—the ones who told me their story in the first place—Nadia Petrov and Hunter Sullivan.

Me: It’s great you two could join me today for this interview.

Nadia: I’m trying to make up for the time I gave you a nightmare.

Hunter: Ginna volunteered.

Me: He’s right. I doubt you invade unsuspecting sleepers’ dreams anymore since you met Hunter.

Nadia: I don’t.

Me: Probably for the best. So, why don’t I just ask the first question?

Hunter: Go on.

Me: You two met in a dream. What was that like?

Hunter: Indescribable. I couldn’t believe she was real and in Jackie’s head.

Nadia: Hunter was quite the surprise. It scared me at first, but I felt bad for him, so I kept going back.

Hunter: I’m lucky she did.

Me: I think all of you were lucky. What do you think your lives would be like if you didn’t meet?

Nadia: We’d both be trapped in places we hated.

Hunter: Yeah, I doubt Jackie would’ve been courageous enough to face her fears alone.

Me: What did you miss the most being imprisoned in someone else’s body, Hunter?

Hunter: Basically everything, but I missed being in control…and food. Oh, and kissing.

Nadia: The real thing is definitely better than in dreams.

Me: Hah! Nice. Do you hold a grudge against Jacqueline for taking your soul as collateral, Hunter?

Hunter: While it was torturous being in Jackie’s mind, I’ve learned a lot from her. Yeah, I’d never ask to share a body again, but if I hadn’t, I would’ve never met Nadia.

Me: What about you, Nadia, any resentment toward Jacqueline?

Nadia: No, definitely not. Jacqueline and I are a lot alike. We’re burdened with gifts we don’t really want. In her defense, she did it to save herself. I might’ve done the same.

Hunter: My mom would’ve killed her. Still might try if she ever finds her.

Me: Must be hard.

Hunter: It’s manageable. We’re working things out. It’s a lot easier being with Nadia in the real world instead of a dream.

Me: Speaking of dreams, what do you like about dreams, Nadia?

Nadia: I get to see and go places I don’t get to visit in real life—some of those places don’t even exist in the real world. It’s like being a part of a magical place…until I destroy it, at least.

Me: Can you visit without inflicting a nightmare?

Nadia: No…I don’t think so. I’ve never tried, really. It’s too irresistible. I don’t do it for fun. It wouldn’t be right.

Hunter: She could invade my dreams anytime.

Nadia: Hunter…

Me: So what has been your favorite dream?

Hunter: Mine was the very first one I met Nadia, in the rundown city. It was the first time I felt hope since being trapped in Jackie’s mind. I sometimes try to imagine that place so I’d dream about it on my own.

Me: Has it ever worked?

Hunter: It’s not the same without Nadia.

Me: So what about you, Nadia?

Nadia: I loved most of the dreams I’ve invaded with Hunter, but my favorite is the one and only dream I had on my own. It was such an amazing and scary feeling not having the same control I do when inflicting a nightmare, but I felt so normal. Almost human. I’d love to dream again.

Me: Okay, last question. What’s next for you two?

Hunter: I’ve made some plans with Jackie. We’re going to change the world so we don’t have to worry about the Human Preservation Agency.

Nadia: I’d like to find some sort of normalcy…and figure out how to tell my father about Hunter.

Me: Dmitri is quite intimidating.

Hunter: Tell me about it.

Nadia: He’s really a softy.

Me: Well, it was great having you both here. Maybe next time you could convince Jacqueline to join you.

Hunter: If it suits her.

Nadia: Don’t listen to him. Of course she’d love to come.

Thanks for reading Nadia and Hunter’s character interview! Are there other characters you’d like an interview from or other questions you’d like to ask Hunter and Nadia? Let me know in the comments!
